Restoring gut flora after horse surgery
Proper refeeding of a horse following surgery and/or colic episodes is essential to optimize recovery and ensure a healthy return to condition in the short to medium term. Beyond the intestinal damage caused directly by colic, horses are often fasted to clear obstructions. This fasting period also occurs in the hours before and after surgical procedures.
