Original Process has presented the initial findings of a veterinary thesis on the development of the newborn calf microbiota in relation to the calving method.
The initial results of the veterinary thesis defended by Mélanie Save in October 2021, which focused on the development of the newborn calf microbiota in relation to birth method and ProbioactiFAP® supplementation, were presented to veterinarians at the GTV national congress. The diversity and richness of the microbiota are not affected by whether the calf is born via cesarean section or natural birth. Only the composition varies, revealing a more fragile microbiota in calves born by cesarean section. Based on these initial results, the effects of Fortiflor® (an oral paste syringe administered for 2 days at birth) appear to demonstrate that ProbioactiFAP® can favorably influence the newborn calf's microbiota regardless of the birth method.
