Positive results on the impact of ProbioactiFAP® products on the microbiota of 100 newborn calves

On August 24, 2023, at the European Buiatrics Congress in Berlin, Dr. Thibaut Lurier presented the latest results from Mélanie Save’s 2021 thesis: Influence of birth method and pre- and postbiotic supplementation on fecal microbiota: a randomized controlled trial in Charolais calves.

Results from 100 calves and 397 fecal samples, supported by metagenomic analysis, demonstrated the significant impact of ProbioactiFAP® (administered as an oral paste on the day of birth and the following day) both on the reduction of enterobacteria at day 1 and on the faster and more early increase in lactobacilli, as well as the diversity and richness of the fecal microbiota, particularly at day 1 and during the first 5 days of life, regardless of the birth method (natural birth or cesarean section).

This study reveals an interesting potential for ProbioactiFAP® to facilitate the start of life for calves and limit the frequency and severityof diarrhea during this high-risk period for diarrhea at E. coli for which therapeutic solutions may be lacking.
