Dr. Thibaut Lurier (VetAgro Sup) presented the development of the newborn calf microbiota to veterinarians in the Hauts-de-France region.

The scientific research presented is the result of a collaborative effort (VetAgro Sup, Inrae, GTV BFC, and Original Process) conducted as part of a veterinary doctoral thesis (M. SAVE, 2021), the results of which were presented by Mélanie Save at the GTV BFC congress in November 2022. Dr. Bill Vandaele, a veterinarian specializing in regulatory affairs, was in attendance, as was Dr. Bernard Schmitt, a physician and co-founder of "Bleu Blanc Cœur." Dr. Schmitt, who oversaw and contributed to the implementation of this study for Original Process, was available to answer questions from veterinarians, particularly regarding human studies related to birth methods. While the positive impact of ProbioactiFAP® (Fortiflor®) on the diversity and richness of the newborn calf microbiota has been demonstrated regardless of the calving method, this highly innovative study found that only the composition of the microbiota differed in calves based on the mode of birth. Does this question remain relevant for "Belgian Blue" calves, in the absence of involvement in the pelvic-birth sector?
