Dr. Mélanie Save presents the findings of her thesis on the development of the newborn calf microbiota in relation to the mode of calving
Dr. Mélanie Save presents the full results of her thesis, conducted in collaboration with GTV BFC veterinarians, on the development of the newborn calf microbiota in relation to the method of calving.
The latest metagenomic fecal analysis results from INRAE, conducted as part of Dr. Mélanie Save's thesis, confirm that while the diversity and richness of the microbiota are not affected by the birth method, its composition varies, indicating that calves born via cesarean section are more fragile than those born naturally. All analyses confirm the significant, positive impact of ProbiocatiFAP® supplementation (Fortiflor® oral paste syringe administered for 2 days at birth) on both the diversity and richness of the microbiota, regardless of the birth method. These effects are maintained during the first 10 days of the calf's life, a period at risk for digestive issues and diarrhea.
